ASSISTANT REGIONAL DIRECTOR
FDICDavid Wong joined the FDIC in 2001 and currently serves as the San Francisco Assistant Regional Director of Risk Management Supervision. As the Assistant Regional Director, David oversees the risk management supervision and has the delegated authority on certain regulatory applications and enforcement actions for financial institutions in the Los Angeles Territory. In addition, David also directs the San Francisco Region’s Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering supervision program, and oversees the San Francisco Region’s Minority Deposit Institution Technical Assistance Program. He has served as a member of the National Course Oversight Group (2016 to 2020) that oversees the development of examiner training in coordination with FDIC Corporate University and was recently selected to serve on the FDIC’s BSA Innovation Subcommittee to the FinCEN’s BSA Advisory Group starting in May 2021.
Prior to becoming the Assistant Regional Director in 2012, David served as the Special Assistant to the San Francisco Regional Director where he was responsible for coordinating and participating in high-level regional projects such as regional audits, OIG material loss reviews on failed institutions, and interactions with executive management from the FDIC, other regulatory agencies, as well as industry trade and consulting groups. David has also served as a Case Manager and as a Risk Management Bank Examiner. As a Case Manager during the 2009 Financial Crisis, David directed the risk management supervision for a portfolio of financial institutions ranging from de novo banks to large regional banks, managed several failing bank cases, and processed one of the first private equity inflatable charter applications in the San Francisco Region.
David is a graduate from the Pacific Coast Banking School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Oregon with a major in Finance and Marketing as well as minor in Computer Information Technology.
